What Is Neurofeedback?

Train the brain. Steady the whole system.

Talk therapy changes how you understand your patterns. Neurofeedback helps change the patterns themselves — at the source. It’s direct, drug-free brain training that teaches your nervous system to spend more time calm, focused, and regulated.

How it works

We read your brain’s electrical activity in real time and gently reward the patterns linked to calm and focus while quieting the stress-driven ones. Over time, your brain practices regulation until it becomes more natural — the way a muscle strengthens with reps. You stay in the driver’s seat the whole time; nothing goes “in.”

Who it helps

People navigating anxiety, low mood, trauma and PTSD, ADHD and focus, sleep struggles, and that wired-but-tired feeling. Paired with counseling, it lets us work at both levels at once — the story, and the system underneath it.

Sometimes we begin by making the invisible visible with a brain map, so we can see what your nervous system is doing and train with precision.

In this presentation, Dr. Howard shares a regulation-first, brain-based framework that helps homeschool families understand what is happening beneath hard behavior and make practical shifts that reduce power struggles and support focus and follow-through.

How does Neurofeedback work?

Neurofeedback reads a client’s brainwaves, or EEG, and uses that information to create “feedback” as part of a video game or movie to show the brain what it is doing. Brainwave activity adjusts the speed, activity, volume, and visibility of the screen. When the brain sees that it is controlling what is happening on the screen, usually after a few minutes, it will use that “feedback” to adjust its own activity to be calmer, more stable, and better regulated.

What can Neurofeedback help with?

“Neurofeedback should play a major therapeutic role in many different areas.

If any medication had demonstrated such a wide spectrum of efficacy, it would be universally accepted and widely used.”

-Dr. Frank Duffy, Pediatric Neurologist, Harvard Medical School
